Dayton’s SantaCon brings the Gem City’s bar culture and Southwest Ohio holiday spirit to one of the most aviation-heritage December celebrations in the country. The Oregon District and the downtown Dayton bar corridor are the heart of Gem City nightlife and when SantaCon arrives the combination of the Wright Brothers aviation heritage that defines Dayton’s place in history, the University of Dayton Flyers energy, and the excellent local bars creates a holiday celebration with a Dayton character that is warm, community-driven, and genuinely Southwest Ohio.
Dayton is the birthplace of aviation and the SantaCon reflects the pioneering, experimental spirit that Orville and Wilbur Wright gave this community. The Santa costume competition draws on the UD and Wright State communities and the Dayton arts and National Museum of the Air Force culture and the entries have a Gem City combination of aviation heritage appreciation and genuine holiday creativity.
