Birmingham’s SantaCon brings the Magic City’s bar culture and Alabama holiday spirit to one of the most creatively resurgent December celebrations in the South. The Avondale and the Five Points South bar districts are the heart of Magic City nightlife and when SantaCon arrives the combination of Birmingham’s remarkable arts and culinary renaissance, the UAB Blazer community, and the excellent local bars creates a holiday celebration with a Birmingham character that is warm, resilient, and completely Alabama.
Birmingham has undergone one of the most impressive urban transformations of any American city over the past two decades and the SantaCon reflects that new creative energy. The Santa costume competition draws on the UAB community and the Birmingham arts and restaurant scene and the entries have a Magic City combination of Alabama Southern warmth and the genuine creative ambition of a city that has reinvented itself.
