Would people go to Hattiesburg or Oxford instead?
Sometimes. Both are university towns with concentrated downtown bar rows, which is exactly what Jackson's geography does not offer.
How humid is Jackson?
Very, from May through September. Evening temperatures stay high and the humidity barely drops, which matters for anything involving walking between venues.
How does Jackson compare with Memphis or New Orleans?
Both are within a few hours and carry dates. Neither is close in bar density, which is the honest reason the Jackson hub stays empty.
