Santa Cruz’s SantaCon brings the Surf City’s bar culture and Santa Cruz County holiday spirit to one of the most beach-counterculture December celebrations in California. The Pacific Avenue and the Seabright bar districts are the heart of Santa Cruz nightlife and when SantaCon arrives the combination of UC Santa Cruz’s academic creativity, the Monterey Bay surfing and outdoor culture, and the excellent local bars creates a holiday celebration with a Santa Cruz character that is bohemian, coastal, and completely Surf City.
Santa Cruz is one of California’s most creatively independent cities combining UCSC’s academic community with a surfing and outdoor culture that values authentic creativity over trend-following. The Santa costume competition draws on the UCSC and Santa Cruz arts community and the entries have a Santa Cruz combination of surf culture creativity and the keep-it-weird California coastal spirit that is completely this city.
