Omaha’s SantaCon brings the Gateway to the West’s bar culture and Nebraska holiday spirit to one of the most community-grounded December celebrations in the Great Plains. The Old Market and the Blackstone District are the heart of Omaha nightlife and when SantaCon arrives the combination of Warren Buffett’s hometown financial seriousness and the Old Market’s creative bar culture, the Creighton and UNO community energy, and the excellent local bars creates a holiday celebration with an Omaha character that is warm, genuine, and completely Nebraska.
Omaha has developed two of the finest bar districts in the Great Plains in the Old Market and the Blackstone District and the SantaCon reflects that quality. The Santa costume competition draws on the Creighton, UNO, and business community and the entries have a Great Plains combination of Midwest warmth and genuine holiday celebration that is completely Omaha.
December in Omaha is cold, typically ranging from 18 to 28 degrees at night. The Nebraska winter is serious and the Old Market’s cobblestone streets with holiday lights and the brick warehouse architecture create one of the most atmospheric winter SantaCon settings in the Midwest.
