Pride Bar Crawl
Houston is enormous and mostly needs a car, but Montrose does not. The Pride Bar Crawl works that neighborhood, where the bars sit close enough together to walk.
Montrose holds independent bars, cocktail rooms and restaurants along Westheimer and the streets off it. Keeping the route inside the neighborhood is the only way to avoid spending the night in traffic. The neighborhood has held that role for decades and the bars reflect it, with old rooms and new ones sitting on the same block without either giving way.
June in southeast Texas is hot and very humid, which puts everything after sunset. The neighborhood fills late and stays busy until closing.
Our hosts run the Montrose route with the stops set in advance. Specials are agreed at each bar and one wristband covers every door.
