Santa Pub Crawls
Albuquerque’s SantaCon brings the Duke City’s bar culture and New Mexico holiday spirit to one of the most culturally layered December celebrations in the Southwest. The Nob Hill and the downtown Albuquerque bar districts have developed into a vibrant scene and when SantaCon arrives the combination of the Rio Grande valley setting, the UNM Lobos community, and the excellent local bars creates a holiday celebration with an Albuquerque character that is warm, multicultural, and genuinely New Mexico.
Albuquerque sits at the crossroads of Native American, Spanish colonial, and American frontier cultures and the SantaCon reflects that multicultural heritage. The Santa costume competition draws on the UNM community and the Albuquerque arts and cultural community and the entries often blend Native American, Spanish, and contemporary New Mexican traditions in Santa interpretations that are inventive, colorful, and completely Duke City.
December in Albuquerque is cold at high desert altitude, typically ranging from 25 to 40 degrees at night. The Rio Grande Valley winter has a high desert character and the Nob Hill bar community provides warm, New Mexico-hospitality hospitality with excellent green and red chile to accompany the SantaCon route.
