How walkable is Hoboken for a bar crawl?
Ideally walkable. The city is barely a square mile and Washington Street runs a dense, continuous line of bars straight through the middle of it. You will never need a ride between stops, which matters in December.
Can I do this as a day trip from New York?
Easily. PATH trains run from Manhattan into Hoboken Terminal in minutes, and NJ Transit and the ferry also serve the terminal. From there Washington Street is a short walk, so no car and no parking problem.
Where do I park if I drive in?
Hoboken street parking is permit-heavy and genuinely difficult, and the garages fill on a weekend. If you are coming from elsewhere in New Jersey, parking at a PATH or NJ Transit station and riding in is the less painful route.
Do I have to dress as Santa?
You will want one. Hoboken takes its costume crawls seriously and the entire crowd commits. A Santa suit, elf outfit, or ugly sweater all fit, and the suit doubles as insulation on a cold afternoon.
How strictly do Hoboken bars check ID?
Very. Plan on 21 and over and bring a valid government-issued photo ID, because door staff here card hard on crawl days and check at every venue. Keep it somewhere you can reach without dismantling the costume.
How cold is Hoboken in December?
Cold and often damp, generally in the 30s with wind coming off the Hudson. The waterfront stretch is the most exposed part of town. Layer under the suit and plan on checking a coat at your first stop.
