In sharp contrast to the usual Irish, “Irish inspired”, and dive bars, Mija is considered one of Boston’s premier Mexican restaurants. The interior is draped in an elegant Mexican design. Rough, natural wood forms the natural design of the wall and comprises much of the bar. The floor is made of flagstones, which is complimented by the hanging light fixtures, made of brass and glass. The furniture is smoothly polished black wood with supple black and white leather seating. Added fixtures and decorative pieces in black wrought iron bring a casual hint of “hacienda” to the space. The menu is authentic Mexican cuisine and the staff displays the warmth of the Mexican personality. The Mexican food is outstanding, particularly the fish tacos, and everything on the menu is made in-house, right down to the tortillas. In addition to an excellent beer selection, they have over a hundred varieties of tequila available. There is a good assortment of specialty drinks, and both red and white wines. It can get busy in there, so if you’re looking for the laid back “chill” kind of vibe you can get that here, especially earlier in the evening. The night crowd is younger which is terrific if you’re looking to socialize with a fun, energetic social set.
